The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that the Taiwanese film Left-handed Girl (左撇子女孩) has been shortlisted in the International Feature Film category for the 98th Academy Awards. Minister of Culture Li Yuan extended congratulations to the production team, praising the film’s remarkable achievement in standing out among 86 submissions.

According to the Ministry of Culture (MOC), Left-handed Girl is the feature-length directorial debut of Tsou Shih-ching (鄒時擎). The film also features an internationally acclaimed creative team, with Palme d’Or winner and Academy Award–winning director Sean Baker joining the project as screenwriter, editor, and producer.

The MOC noted that the film has attracted widespread international attention for its distinctive storytelling and strong creative vision. It received the Gan Foundation Award for Distribution at Cannes Critics’ Week and was selected for screenings at major international film festivals in Canada, South Korea, and Italy. Domestically, the film earned nine nominations at the 62nd Golden Horse Awards.

The MOC further reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the film’s promotional efforts in North America during the crucial Oscar voting period, with the goal of securing Taiwan’s next Academy Award win since Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (臥虎藏龍).
