Program’s Introduction

Taiwan has experienced the Dutch colonial period, the Ming Dynasty's Zheng Cheng-Gong period, Qing Dynasty rule, Japanese rule, and the preliminary stage of the Republic of China on Taiwan. Taiwan has undergone many unfoldments on a magnificent scale, from the post-World War II period, Martial Law period, Post-Abolishment of Martial Law, to the modern life of freedom and democracy. While history is relevant to our daily lives, most of us do not know much about Taiwan's history.

To provide listeners with an easy way to get acquainted with Taiwan's culture and history, the NERS and the National Taiwan Library have planned a series of "Taiwan History Easy Listening" programs with five major themes including "Broadcasting", "Railways", "Travel", "Monopoly" and "Love," with five short stories detailed and planned for each theme. The program is presented in the form of a series of mini-stories that bring to life the interesting daily lives of the people and the significance of the times in Taiwan's history, allowing the people of Taiwan to get in touch with the culture and history of Taiwan in an easy way.
