Intercultural Corner: Braai
Hello, everyone! I am your friend Lem. Welcome to Intercultural Corner! Today, we are talking about food. Have you ever had a barbecue? In South Africa, there is a special barbecue called braai. It is more than just food—it is part of their culture. Let’s find out more about it!
A braai is a special way of cooking and spending time with family and friends. People usually have a braai in their gardens or at parks. It is a time to talk, laugh, and enjoy being together.
At a braai, people cook meat over a fire. They use wood or charcoal, not gas. They cook all kinds of meat, like beef, chicken, pork, and lamb. One special food is boerewors. This is a South African sausage, and many people love it.
But a braai is not only about meat. People also cook vegetables, like corn and potatoes. They also make fresh salads. For dessert, they eat sweet treats, like milk tart.
A braai is not just about food. It is a time to enjoy life with family and friends. If you ever visit South Africa, try a braai. You will love the food and have loads of fun! Thank you for listening to Intercultural Corner. See you next time!
