Hope:

Yes, your makeup pouch.

Joey:

Makeup pouch…我一直以為化妝包是 cosmetic bag.

Hope:

Well, they are the same. You can call it either a cosmetic bag or a makeup bag or a makeup pouch. Basically, a pouch means a small soft bag.

Joey:

Oh~ I see. A pouch is 小袋袋 like this 化裝包. A makeup pouch.

對了! Talking about a makeup pouch, I’d like to ask you an English word.

Hope:

Sure.

Joey:

How do you say “藥妝店” in English?

Hope:

It is “a drugstore.”

Joey:

But a drugstore 不是藥局嗎?

Hope:

Yes, a drugstore means 藥局in Mandarin Chinese. But in the US, at a drugstore, you can not only fill your prescriptions,

or get some over-the counter medications, but you can also find some other personal care products,

toiletries, cosmetics, household items, and even some snacks..

Joey:

Really? I thought you can only buy medicine there! What about another word…. something starts with f…f…f-sound.

Hope:

Pharmacy?

Joey:

Yes. Pharmacy!

Hope:

Well. A pharmacy is a place where you can buy mainly medicine and there are usually a pharmacist to provide advice.

Joey:

I got it. A drugstore 比較像我們的藥妝店，而 a pharmacy 比較像藥局。

Hope:

So, Joey, you haven’t answered my question yet. Are you going to a party?

Joey:

Yes, it’s my BFF’s birthday today and we are going to celebrate her birthday at a KTV tonight..

Hope:

No wonder.

Joey:

But I will go to a drugstore first.

Hope:

Oh?

I need to buy 一條睫毛膏and 一枝眼線筆。我的用完了。

Hope:

I see. You will get a tube of mascara and an eyeliner pen or a stick of eyeliner at a drugstore.

Joey:

Yes, on my way to the KTV, I will go to a drugstore to buy a tube of mascara and an eyeliner pen.

Hmm…What about a set of makeup brushes? I know she wears makeup.

Joey:

That’s a good idea.  I was thinking about getting her a bottle of指甲油 or a set of 指甲貼片.

Hope:

I think nail polish and nail stickers are both good choices for her because last time I saw her, she was wearing those very fancy nail stickers.

Joey:

Yes, you are right. She is very into nail art.

Hope:
