Dialogue: (對話)

Hope:

How’s your day, Joey?

Joey:

Not bad. How about you, Hope?

Hope:

Just fine.

Joey:

Hey, Hope. Are you E 人 or I 人?

Hope:

Am I what?

Joey:

Are you E 人 or I 人? 你是E人還是I人?

Hope:

Ah~ you mean if I am an extrovert or an introvert?

Joey:

對、對、對…I want to ask if you are an ex…?

Hope:

Extrovert!

Joey:

Extrovert or an in …?

Hope:

Introvert!

Joey:

Introvert! Yes, so, Hope, are you an extrovert or an introvert?

Hope:

You guess!

Joey:

Then I guess you are an introvert, right?

Hope:

You are right! I am an introvert. I am a shy person who prefers to spend time alone rather than often being with others. What about you, Joey?

Joey:

I am an extrovert! You can tell it by looking at how I 與人互動。

Hope:

Yes, I can tell it by looking at how you interact with others. You are outgoing and love being with others!

Joey:

Yes, many people say I am energetic and I think I enjoy being with others.

Hope:

Indeed. You look more outgoing than other people in the office.

Joey:

So, Hope, did you get this result by doing the test of MBTI? It is very popular these days.

Hope:

Yes, I did it on the Internet a few weeks ago and the result explains what types of personal trait I have got.

Joey:

Personal trait means 人格特質, right?

Hope:

That’s right.

Joey:

Isn’t it interesting when you find you are 被分類到某類人格屬性?

Hope:

Yes, it is quite interesting and somehow surprising when you are categorized into a certain type of personal trait!

Joey:

Yes, it is quite interesting when you are categorized into a certain type of personal trait!

Hope:

By knowing what the type of personal trait you have got, it helps you yourself as well as others to understand how to get along with you, and vice versa.

Joey:

You are right. It can help you when you know the way the other person thinks.

For example, now, I know how to communicate with Lily. I used to think that she is way too shy and quiet and she is hard to understand and ……

how do you say…she is very ㄍㄧㄥin English?

Hope:

She is very reserved.

Joey:

Yes, she is very reserved. But now I understand that it is her way to deal with things, so I can try to put myself in her shoes and think from her angle.

Hope:

Hey, that’s a good point. Once we know there are different types of people in our society, there is more sympathy and empathy among us.

What we can do is to try to look for better ways to communicate and to listen.

Joey:

I agreed. I guess that’s why some companies apply MBTI 的 16 種人格分類 to look for people they need.

Hope:

Yes. To a company, they look for the type of person that best suit them.

And to an individual, once you discover and understand your strengths and weaknesses,

you know how to better participate in team work and have a better communication with others.
